Dodgy Tramps!

We had had a very small taste of life in Fremantle before our road trip south. Luckily we had the opportunity to spend a lot more time there on our way back from York. The main reason was the enormous generosity of Karen’s friend Eilidh who lived there. It was nice to be part of […]

Yorkie

Hi There. Before you read this article can you please take a look to your right (of the screen). You may have not noticed the picture of the BUPA Blog Awards. Well we have been nominated for one of their prizes under the ‘Travel Blog’ section. This was only possible thanks to our lovely readers. […]

Karen and the Waves!!

During a wildlife tour in the Wheatbelt, a kangaroo and various animals were spotted on the road. The duo visited Wave Rock, a notable rock formation, and Hippo’s Yawn. After a scenic drive, they reached York and secured unexpected accommodation at Spooky Hall, highlighting the adventure-filled day.

My Kingdom For A Horse

Nearby to Lake Grace is a very bizarre art exhibition. It’s not in a gallery or a certain artspace, but along a stretch of highway. According to Tripadvisor…“The Tin Horse Highway is a laughing matter! The dusty paddocks surrounding Kulin have become a gallery of bright, quirky, community creations. What started as an authentic community […]

Amazing Grace?

After Albany the plan had been to head to Esperance, some 700kms away. With the weather starting to turn and the fact that it’s really only beaches out that way, we made the decision to head back inland on our way back to Perth. Karen identified Hyden – home of the famous Wave Rock as […]

Call me Ishmael…

Standing across from Albany City and the King George Sound is an area called Frenchman’s bay. It is here that today’s adventure would take place. We drove down the peninsula all the way to a place called Whale World. As we got to the car park Karen noticed the fuel gauge on empty. Making an […]

Albany

It was time for John to step up and do some serious driving. Denmark to Albany was his mission! Albany would be a challenge, as according to the Denmark Visitor Centre lady Albany is a city so you need to pay more attention guys..as it has roundabouts! So there you have it. City status in […]

Denmark?

We are going to Denmark, we are going to Denmark!! I have never been to Scandinavia before. This is still true, as the Denmark in question is the name of a small town in Western Australia that is situated near the city of Albany on the south coast. We got parking in the ‘centre’ of […]

Cider with Rosie

After the Treetop Walk our next stop was to William Bay National Park. This is home to both the Greens Pool and the Elephant Rocks. The Greens Pool is a secluded beach protected from the Southern Ocean’s swell by rocks giving the impression of blue lagoon while the Elephant Rocks are a collection of huge […]

March of the Ents…

It was quite a journey to Denmark (Western Australia), so we decided to stop in a little place called Walpole for the night. Driving through the south-west forests was special. Both sides of the road teeming with giant karri and tingle trees, whose branches create a canopy above the road. It’s no wonder why the […]

Lighthouse Family

It is not every day you climb the tallest lighthouse on mainland Australia and observe breathtaking views of where the Southern and Indian Ocean’s meet. Well it is if you work there, but we don’t 🙂 The lighthouse in question was in Cape Leeuwin – named after the first known ship to visit the area, […]

Maggie May!

After 7 months in Asia we had missed cheese, chocolate and wine. Thankfully we were in the best region of Western Australia to get our fix- Margaret River. There are 150 cellar doors – wineries in a 100km area. Enough to keep Gerry Finn merry! The region accounts 20% of Australia’s premium wine export. Not […]

Townies

With our Wine Tour booked for tomorrow we headed into Margaret River Town to check out what else was on offer. Originally set up in 1839, the town expanded rapidly as part of a resettlement scheme at the end of World War 1. Margaret River is now the centre of one of the best wine […]

On The Beach

Margaret River is all about the two Ws – Wine and Waves. We will talk about Wine in a later post. The second W, waves, are in abundance on the coastline between Gnarabup and Surfer’s point at Prevelly Beach. We stayed here in a beach hostel. The room was nice and the shared kitchen and dining […]

Busselton or Bust!!

Western Australia is massive. To explore it properly we would have to get some wheels. After over 8 months of not driving it was time to get behind the wheel again. We selected Margaret River and the Southwest region of Australia for a road trip. A quick trip to JB Hifi was needed to get […]
