West Coast Coolers – Part 3

The journey from Galway to Doolin involved scenic drives through Clare, showcasing the Burren landscape. After exploring Doolin, including the Cliffs of Moher with their dramatic views and rich wildlife, the family visited relatives in Limerick. They enjoyed outdoor activities at Curraghchase Forest Park, a beautiful historic estate.

West Coast Coolers – Part 2

Connemara and Galway – October 2022 You can read all about how we got up to Galway in Part 1 here. After collecting Emmet from his place in town we headed west along Galway Bay, past the village of Spiddal. It was quite a windy day. Our destination was Kylemore Abbey and would take us […]

West Coast Coolers – Part 1

In October 2022, a road trip to Galway, Clare, and Limerick offered a chance to visit siblings. Highlights included visiting Bunratty Castle, enjoying lunch at Durty Nelly’s Pub, and exploring Galway’s cultural history. Despite rain, the family visited the Galway Atlantaquaria and experienced the city’s vibrant music scene.

Tales of the South Coast

In December 2021, a family enjoyed a road trip from Sydney to Kangaroo Valley for Christmas, staying with friends on a farm. They explored local heritage sites, including the historic Hampden Bridge and Fitzroy Falls. Later, they spent New Year’s at Austinmer, enjoying beaches and scenic views while returning home.

Easter in the Mountains

April 2021 Having survived our trip to the Central Coast, we decided that the best way to adapt with baby traveling is to keep at it. So with Easter around the corner we made a plan to head West and up the Blue Mountains for a stay in Leura. Breaking up the journey You need […]

Port Stephens

In March 2021, the family embarked on their first road trip with their 5-month-old son to Port Stephens, 160km north of Sydney. They stayed at The Anchorage in Corlette Point, enjoying suite rooms and exploring the region, despite unpredictable weather. Highlights included Birubi Point, Stockton Beach, and a visit to the Murrays Brewing Co. The trip was punctuated by stormy weather and road closures, necessitating an extended stay.

North by NorthEast

After months of lockdown, a road trip to Bellingen, New South Wales brought newfound freedom. Stopping in Port Macquarie, a penal settlement turned seaside town, and then reaching the hippie haven of Bellingen, they indulged in Middle Eastern cuisine and explored the Dorrigo National Park. Heading back, they encountered history at South West Rocks before returning home.

A bit of Welly: The Real Windy City

Chicago is known as the Windy City – but another place can claim the title to be the Real Windy City. The last part of our New Zealand trip would involve a trip to the most southernmost capital city in the world and the windiest city by average wind speed.(completely true!) – Wellington. In keeping […]

Full Nelson

We started our journey that morning by boat – crossing back across the Kenepuru Sound to our hire car, where we left it, parked next to the Te Mahia jetty. Our drive brought us back through Havelock and along Highway 6 towards Pelorus Bridge before we took a big right turn and the road to […]

North Shore Living: Kenepuru Sounds

After a day spent in Blenheim at the wineries we headed north. We had a rendezvous to get to. “Be at the pier at 1pm…no cops!*” That last bit was made up. What was not made up was our transition from State Highway 1 to State Highway 6 (the longest single Highway in New Zealand […]

Marlborough Man (and woman!)

Easter Sunday 2019 After a 300km+ car journey and the best ‘Fish and Chips’ lunch ever in Kaikoura we had made it to Wine Country – Marlborough. Named after General John Churchill, 1st Duke Of Marlborough, its dry climate and stark contrast between hot sunny days and cool nights have turned the region into the […]

Road Trip to Blenheim

April 2019 After breakfast we took a leasurely stroll towards our Car Hire pick–up. This took us north and through the heritage Street of New Regent Street. Opened in 1932 by the Mayor of Christchurch this small street of 40 units looked very cute. Different colour buildings in a Spanish Mission Style facade provide an […]

Bay of Jervis

So it’s the Spring Break weekend, or as Kevin Bridges (and rest of the world for that matter) calls it – the Easter Holidays, and we decided to do a road trip instead of flying somewhere. Our Destination would be Jervis Bay a mere 200 km to our south, the equivalent of Glasgow to Penrith or […]
